Auböck + Kárász, Wien

The Viennese landscape architects / architects Auböck + Kárász have worked together since 1987, realizing numerous projects at home and abroad in concert with well-known architectural colleagues such as Otto Steidle and Adolf Krischanitz. Their variegated working spectrum extends from designing large-scale landscape surfaces to parks and historical landmark gardens - cf. the restoration of the garden of Schloss Belvedere in Vienna - to public squares and private gardens. The team is also active in many cities in a teaching or consulting capacity. The exhibition presents the following projects by means of numerous plans and models: the landscape park at Blumau/Steiermark; the park of the state hospital at Hartberg/Steiermark; a car-free model housing estate for Vienna; a residential model for an inter-ethnic Viennese neighborhood; the city park at Hall/Tyrol; the Hall/Tyrol town square; the forearea of Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna and the Parco Ex-Cava d’Agostino for Salerno/Italien. These seven open spaces form the core of the exhibition, and are interwoven with other projects, some related, some embedded contrapuntally. Characteristic of these precisely composed landscapes is an unpretentious, unforced, natural approach and an unperturbed intercourse with the temporal dimension. Each project unfolds out of intricate contextual superimpositions whose minimalist accents permit the emergence of lightness and clarity. Maria Auböck and János Kárász perceive a special, timely challenge in the quest for the graceful animation of social spaces, as exemplified by their designs for residences and hospitals.
