The Instituto Óscar Domínguez de Arte y Cultura Contemporánea (IODACC Óscar Domínguez Institute of Contemporary Art and Culture) was created in 1995 through an initiative by the Island Council of Tenerife with the aim to operate as an international centre of contemporary art with a regard for the peculiarities of the land in which it is located, as well as its cultural background. The IODACC is an institution devoted to the study, dissemination and creation of contemporary art and culture. Its objectives are to turn Tenerife into a meeting point for all forms of art that currently exist and to disseminate modern Canary Island art. The permanent collection at the IODACC is structured on three permeable sections. One is dedicated to Óscar Domínguez, the most international artist from Tenerife. Another includes the evolution of Canary Island art from the 20th century to the present day, through pieces of work by the artists Jorge Oramas, Juan Ismael, César Manrique, Juan Hidalgo, Martín Chirino, Pedro González, Plácido Fleitas, Cristino de Vera...up to the latest generations. A third section is devoted to international art after 1975 (Donald Baechler, Andreas Schulze, Dokoupil, Walter Dahn, Enzo Cucchi, Imi Knoebel, Peter Schuyff, Salvo, Perejaume, etc.). The project for the new IODACC headquarter building has been designed by the architect studio Herzog & de Meuron. It will be a large cultural complex of over 20,000 sqm that is to be shared among the IODACC, the Island Centre of Photography and the Island Library of Tenerife. Work begun in December 2002 and will prospectively end in 2005.
