YO.V.A

The Executive Vienna City Councilor Rudolf Schicker initiated the project YO.V.A. – Young Viennese Architects in the 'Year of Architecture 2005' in order to promote and support young creatives in this field. In order to allow as many young architects as possible to participate, the application and selection process was designed to be open and transparent. The open invitation was presented on the Internet; the only requirements were the age (not older than 45 years) and having already realized a project in Vienna. Forty-two candidates responded. The way the selection process was designed made it possible to choose already established and published architects as well as widely unknown architects who focus more on concept development. The fifteen architectural contributions displayed now in the exhibition were selected in a one-day jury session chaired by Prof. Rüdiger Lainer and the architect Bettina Götz (ARTEC). Even though the 42 applications naturally are only a snapshot of the dynamic and lively young Viennese architectural scene, the jury was impressed by the high quality and multilayered approaches of the submitted designs and the City of Vienna plans to run Y.O.V.A biennially. This selection, of course, is only an impression of a small part of the current architectural life in Vienna: Well-known and established architectural offices such pool, querkraft, Caramel, ppag, gernergerner/plus, Treusch architecture, Alles Wird Gut, Klaus Stattmann and heri&salli are represented alongside the less known RAHM architekten, Michael Wallraff, feld72, ARQUITECTOS, gaupenraub+/- und OOOyO. Each office will present its projects on four plates in the exhibition, designed individually.

The exhibition framework and the catalogue were designed by “Büro für Visuelle Kommunikation – Schreiner&Kastler“, a design agency in Vienna.

Besides Aedes, the exhibition will be presented in architecture centres in the federal provinces of Austria as a 'warm up' in autumn 2006, and at the end of January 2007 Y.O.V.A will be open to the public in Vienna in the Kunsthalle at the Karlsplatz.

Speakers at the opening in Berlin are:
Kristin Feireiss Aedes, Berlin
Ambassador Dr. Christian Prosl Austrian Embassy in Berlin
Dipl. Ing. Michael Diem Vienna

A catalogue will be published (€ 10. -)
