Wulf & Partner, Stuttgart

The architects of the Stuttgart office Wulf & Partner aim at enriching modernist architecture with additional quality through formal engagement. Tobias Wulf, Kai Bierich and Alexander Vohl achieve this by using Dynamism, a presently strong movement of architecture, which tries to conform with life spirit and social tendencies by working with dynamic building forms. Three actual designs of Wulf & Partner will be exhibited with plans, models, photos and short explanations. One recently realised, one shortly before construction and one, which is planned but not realised.

An extraordinary example for Dynamism is the Factory Outlet Centre of the sportswear company Adidas in Herzogenaurach, which associates the world of sports with its appearance and symbolism and provides a characteristic environment for the trade with sporting goods. As a side effect the design deals with the usual problems of this building type such as traffic and parking.

So far the most demanding project is the fairground Baden-Württemberg near the Stuttgart airport. The plannings for this immense construction with 100.000 m 2 of display area started at the end of 1999. Presently detailed plans are being made and the start of construction is being prepared. The fairground with its seven halls with curved roofs along both sides of the development axis and a significant bridge as parking house, which will be a landmark for the federal capital and will be already recognisable from an airplane.

The third work shown will be the Rhodarium in Bremen, an architecturally remarkable greenhouse. Unfortunately discourageous politicians and influential citizens prevented its realisation. The headquarter of the Bremen Rhododendron Park has a bridging function between the historic and the new park and at the same time connects the different areas with its greenhouses like extended arms. The course of the river 'Kleine Wümme' is integrated in the planning, the landscape grows into the halls. Lightness and charm are the characteristics of this design, where artificial dynamic and the natural organic forms connect themselves.
