Strecker + Steidle

By intervening in the numerous attempts to find a solution for dealing with the monstrous legacy of the 'Third Reich' in Prora on Rügen, the architects Bernhard Strecker + Otto Steidle have delivered a proposal that represents an individualising transformation of the existing building structure in a contemporary and exemplary way. 'Prora Polyphon' defines a "house in house" conception that develops a joint work of many architects from the smallest modules of the overall structure. In this design, the criteria of monument protection are also meaningfully included. Prof. Dr.Gottfried Kiesow of the 'Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz' (German Foundation for the Protection of Monuments) says: " For indeed, history cannot be undone, nor suppressed, but must be processed through clear juxtapositions." In addition to the presentation of this project, the exhibition gives an insight into the more than ten years of dealing with Prora.

You are cordially invited to a press conference on Wednesday, 17 March 2004 at 6.30 pm. On the other days, the project group will answer interested and critical questions in a Jour-Fix at 6.30 pm each day.
