Unser Berlin - Our Berlin

G.L.A.S. and glaspaper Glasgow Letters on Architecture and Space (G.L.A.S.) investigates the manifestations and consequences of the historical and present production of uneven development within our cities and the built environment. Through the production of multi-media critical works and designs GLAS seeks to promote a social and political rethinking of how we make and experience our cities. One of these ongoing works is the production of the quarterly journal glaspaper.

Unser Berlin - Our Berlin
During a period of two weeks, starting at the 11th of September and finishing on the 25th of September, GLAS shall transform the pavilion of AEDES EAST in the Hackesche Höfe into a newspaper office and produce a special edition of glaspaper titled 'Unser Berlin- Our Berlin'. With 'Unser Berlin - Our Berlin' GLAS and glaspaper will transfer their work from the usual context of Scotland and Britain to a known yet unfamiliar territory. Through a series of playful workshops, informal discussions, and informative interviews with local groups or individuals as well as through investigative tours throughout the city of Berlin GLAS seeks to gather knowledge, statements, impressions, images, ideas, and critique about the current state of Berlin and its built environment. The collected material will constitute the content of glaspaper - 'Unser Berlin - Our Berlin'. The aim of 'Unser Berlin - Our Berlin' will be to provide an alternative picture of the urban condition of Berlin through an engagement with people and places that are commonly not included into the professional discussion about the production of the built environment. The whole production process of the paper will take place within those two weeks and at a publicly accessible pavilion. In that respect the pavilion of AEDES EAST will become at the same time a public forum for the exchange of ideas about the city, a growing exhibition of these ideas that will be displayed in the window front of the pavilion, and the actual production place of the newspaper itself. In a concluding final event the finished product, glaspaper - 'Unser Berlin - Our Berlin', shall be publicly presented and distributed to a diverse and wide an audience as possible.
