Aedes presents the first comprehensive exhibition of the work of the young architecture practice Gewers Pudewil, Berlin.

Partners Georg Gewers and Henry Pudewill have been working together for five years and in this time have completed projects at various scales, from the individual home to high-rises and complex housing developments. The constructions of the office are characterised above all by their clear structure and conceptual consistency. The liveliness and innovation of all designs and projects arise from the practice’s credo: ‘Structure and Experiment’. Every new assignment develops without preconceived designs or solutions. During the design process they explicitly seek to find an answer that fulfils the demands of place, programme and creativity without limiting themselves from the outset with self-imposed rules and guidelines. In the interplay between experimental designs they seek clear, structured and precise built solutions.

With numerous competition successes and awards, the significance of this young practice is already clear. Amongst other accolades they have received the Brandenburgischer Architekturpreis 2007, special recognition in the BDA Award Berlin 2009, as well as most recently the 2013 Iconic Award of the German Design Council.

The exhibition presents the variety and scope of Gewers Pudewill, whose designs and realised buildings reach from the Berlin riverbank to the South China Sea. Projects on show include the Service City of the new BER, Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, the new building for the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment in Berlin, the urban planning of Jabal Khandamah for Mecca in Saudia Arabia, as well as concepts and studies for Cedar Hills in Beirut, the underwater Hotel Hainan in China and a competition entry for Sozhou Dushu Lake in China. Alongside the generous presentation of large-scale photographs and images of realised projects on the walls of the exhibition space, the central lounge invites the visitor to get to know further projects and particulars in more detail through short films and illustrative plans.
